About Sculptor

I was born in a family of farmers in the state of U.P. (Baghpat) but I was brought up in Delhi as my father was teaching at a Govt. School. I did my education from Delhi only. I have completed my BFA & MFA Sculpture from Delhi College of Art in year 1994 & 1996 respectively. I completed my PH. D degree from KUK in 2017.

No one appreciated Arts specially Fine art in my family, as most of the family members had science backgrounds. Initially I was also a students of economics honours but I left the college after one year and took admission in the College of Art Delhi in 1990. When I joined the college I met my guru Prof. Biman B. Das who is the real force behind my entire journey till date.

I have worked on various themes like ardhaneshwara, mahishasur mardini, union of men & women etc. My favourite mediums are stone and bronze. Because of my keen interest in both the mediums I have moslty created my sculptures in these mediums only. I love to work on mythological themes like ardhaneshwara and mahishasur mardini the most.

When I was in Art College, at that time there were very limited platforms to showcase your talent, hence to establish as an artist was very difficult. But due to the encouragement by my guru ji some how I managed to continue in the field of sculpture. As the tough time passed ,though things became easier. One thing I wish to say is that I was lucky in way that I got job immediately after completing my MFA. It enabled me to establish my self in the field of sculpture with ease.

Art has always brought about changes in my life as well as in my personality. I feel that I am very emotional, empathetic, sensitive, helpful and thoughtful. I aspire to become like my Guru, a perfect teacher, a great sculptor and a beautiful person.

When I joined Government College of Art, Chandigarh, I was very inspired by the various trees as my basic form of expression is a tree only and aslo the geometric patterns of the architecture of the city inspired me. I use both of these elements in my works of art. A few of my sculptures have been displayed in the city, one is at kala gram, one in Hotel Shivalik, Sukhna Lake and the underpass near Rose Garden, Chandigarh. All these sculptures reflect the above mentioned qualities.

My Dream project is to teach my students honestly and transform the knowledge which I have gained to them and I also wish to create a large sige bronze sculpture on mythological theme, while keeping the characteristics of the city alive in it.

I wish to suggest young artists that work as hard as you can and as honestly as you can. There are no shortcuts in field of sculpture and without hard work and honesty you can not retain and bring out the innocence which I think is very much essential for an artist.
